Sometimes we don’t feel like running. Don’t worry, this is not abnormal. At some point, we need to give meaning to what we do or quite simply make our running sessions a bit more fun. Wait…and why not have fun and do some good at the same time? Is this something you might be interested in? Great, so have a look at one of the craziest charity events of 2016: the Sumo Run Ireland!

A race for everyone

Actually this is Ireland’s 2nd Sumo Race and it’s all about fun, family and a sense of sharing. Open to runners of all kinds and levels, this event will take place on Sunday 28th August at noon and consists of a 5km route on the seafront in Bray. Organized in aid of Purle House Cancer Support, it offers fun activities for all the family throughout the day, so children are warmly invited to join!

Have you ever run wearing an…inflatable sumo suit?

Yes, you read that correctly. You can leave your favorite tank top at home! Each runner will have to wear an inflatable sumo suit, but don’t worry, it’s very light (it’s made from nylon). Also, someone will explain to you how to inflate it before the race starts. It will be fun to see all these false sumo wrestlers running together! The icing on the cake? After the run, the suit is yours and you can take it home!

A cancer-fighting event

The aim of this exciting event is to raise funds to support everyone affected by cancer in Ireland. Participating in the Sumo Race, you will help Purple House Cancer Support to conduct its initiatives near to patients and their families. This is why there is an entry fee you will have to pay if you want to take part in the Sumo Race. Actually there are two ways to settle it:
– you can register directly online (as an individual or as a group)
– you can share your personal fundraising page to raise funds (the website will explain how to do this with ease).

So, what are you waiting for? Do the right thing, run the right race!
